The Marion County Public Health Department continues to confirm, through laboratory testing, mosquitoes with the West Nile virus. Surveillance sites located throughout the county are used to trap mosquitoes that are then tested by the health department's laboratory staff.
While no human cases of West Nile virus have been confirmed, local health officials warn that mosquitoes with the virus continue to be active throughout the county.

Since 2002, Marion County has experienced five West Nile virus deaths and more than 50 people have become sick with the virus.
In 2010, there were three confirmed human cases and no deaths in Marion County.
