Health Department Will Offer Seasonal Flu Vaccines Beginning September 8

The Marion County Health Department will begin offering seasonal flu vaccine through its District Health Offices on Tuesday, September 8.

The health department encourages all Marion County residents to get a seasonal flu vaccine this year.

Those identified as most at-risk for seasonal flu and those who should receive a flu shot include:

  • Children ages 6 months up to their 19 years old
  • Pregnant women
  • People 50 years of age and older
  • People of any age with certain chronic medical conditions
  • People who live in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities
  • Health care workers
  • Household contacts of persons at high risk for complications from the flu
  • Household contacts and out of home caregivers of children less than 6 months of age (these children are too young to be vaccinated)
  • The clinics will offer the seasonal flu vaccine, pneumonia and tetanus shots.

These clinics will not offer vaccine for the H1N1 flu, and the vaccinations at these clinics will not prevent the H1N1 flu virus.

Children under age 2 can receive the vaccine free of charge.

The flu or flu mist vaccine fee for those ages 2 through 18 is $10. Those 19 and older will be charged $15. Pneumonia vaccine are $40 and tetanus vaccine is $20. Medicare and Medicaid will be accepted.
