MCPHD Launches New Website To Provide Free HIV Testing Kits

Residents can receive test kits by mail, take tests in their home

INDIANAPOLIS – Marion County Public Health Department’s Substance Use Outreach Services Program invites Marion County residents to visit its new website, www.TestIndy.org, where residents can request a free HIV test kit and connect with a health educator virtually for guidance and support.

The program is available to Marion County residents who are 17 years or older, and who have not been tested for HIV in the past 90 days.

After registering through the website, participants will receive a discreet package containing the test kit in the mail.

Participants can take the test in their homes, and will have the results in about 20 minutes.  An MCPHD health educator will be available to meet virtually with the participants, and to walk them through the testing process.

After reviewing the results together, the health educator will provide guidance and support, and can help schedule any follow-up testing appointments.  Participants who complete the process will also receive a $25 gift card for shopping, restaurants, movies or gasoline through the mail.

Byron Reynolds, Program Manager of MCPHD’s Substance Use Outreach Services, said he is pleased to see the program up and running, and appreciates the support and funding from the Indiana Department of Health and the Ryan White HIV Services Program.

“Our goal is to educate more Marion County residents about HIV and AIDS, and to get more people to know their HIV status,” Reynolds said.

The program allows people to order, receive and use the test kits from the privacy of their home.  Even residents with transportation issues can benefit from the program and the confidential support of MCPHD’s health educators.

“HIV has not gone away,” Reynolds said.  “It is still very present in central Indiana.”
