The Marion County Public Health Department collected more than 2,600 used tires during Saturday’s Tire Amnesty Day.

“We appreciate the general public bringing these tires to us. Aside from being an ideal mosquito breeding site, tires are bad for our environment,” said Chuck Dulla, administrator for the health department’s mosquito control program.

During the last three years, the Tire Amnesty Program has collected more than 10,000 passenger tires. All of the tires are recycled.
