Marion County Health Department Announces Additional School-Based Clinics
The Marion County Health Department will begin providing H1N1 vaccine to elementary students in Franklin and Decatur Townships on Monday, November 16 and in the Speedway School District Wednesday, November 18. The health department also announced plans to vaccinate students attending Beech Grove and Lawrence Township schools.
“The addition of these school systems moves us closer to our goal of offering the vaccine to our school-aged children by the end of December,” said Virginia A. Caine, M.D., director, Marion County Health Department.
Beech Grove Schol-Based H1N1 Clinics Announced
The Marion County Health Department will offer H1N1 vaccine to students in Beech Grove schools in grades Kindergarten through 6th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 17 at South Grove Intermediate School, 851 South 9th Avenue.
This clinic is only for students attending Beech Grove schools in Kindergarten through 6th grade. Middle and high school students will be receiving information on their clinic later this month.
Parents and guardians are asked to fill out consent forms and return them by the due date. Children must have a signed consent form returned by the due date to receive a vaccination. The consent forms are used to determine the amount of vaccine each school receives.
Parents and guardians are asked to make certain their student eats a good breakfast before coming to school on vaccination day.
The school-based vaccination schedule is available at www.mchd.com. Those with questions can contact the Marion County Health Department Flu Helpline at 221-3366. The helpline is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Lawrence Township H1N1 Clinics Announced
The Marion County Health Department and MSD of Lawrence Township will hold two H1N1 flu clinics for township students. Lawrence Township was among several school systems that wanted its students vaccinated outside of regular school hours.
Kindergarten through 5th grade students enrolled in Lawrence Township schools will be vaccinated Saturday, November 21, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lawrence North High School Fieldhouse. Middle and high school students enrolled in Lawrence Township schools will be vaccinated Saturday, December 5, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lawrence North High School Fieldhouse. The fieldhouse is located at 7802 Hague Road.
The clinics are for Lawrence Township students only.
Students coming to the clinics must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, are asked to eat beforehand, wear short sleeve shirts and be prepared to wait in long lines.
Consent forms will be sent home with students prior to the clinics. The forms must be completed and signed in order for the student to receive a vaccination. Forms will be available at the clinics. If the form is completed prior to the clinic it will greatly expedite the vaccination process and reduce wait times.

Note: The Marion County Health Department has vaccinated more than 6,000 students in the first two days of H1N1 School-Based clinics. Health officials will vaccinate an additional 2,990 students today (Wednesday, November 11).
