Water Testing and Town Hall Meeting Set as Part of Train Derailment Clean Up
As part of the on-going CSX cleanup related to Sunday’s (Jan. 6) train derailment the Marion County Health Department (MCHD) will be offering free testing of residential water wells in the area. The testing will begin January 10.
The free water testing is being offered as a precautionary measure only. No immediate impact to area groundwater is expected. In order to confirm this, residential well water testing is being offered to help determine if any long-term impacts might need to be addressed as part of the clean up.
Marion County Health Department and CSX officials will be focusing on homes located on Jackson Street, Girls School Road, Bertha Street, Mount Herman Avenue and Henry Street. Officials will visit homes, meet with homeowners, answer any questions and take a water sample.
Other residents, not located in the target area, who would like to have the health department test their water, can make arrangements by calling 221-2266.
Town Hall Meeting Set
The health department will join representatives from CSX, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, Wayne Township Fire Department and Marion County Emergency Management in holding a town hall meeting on Friday, January 11 at the Wayne Township Fire Department Headquarters, 700 N. High School Road, Classroom E, beginning at 6 p.m. Officials will share information and be available to answer questions.
