Legacy House Receives Grant to Support Financial Assistance Program

INDIANAPOLIS – Legacy House in Indianapolis has received an $8,000 grant from the Robert and Toni Bader Charitable Foundation to support operations and special programming to survivors of violence.
Legacy House is a non-profit agency that offers a wide range of programs and services free of charge to adults and children affected by violence including child abuse, domestic violence, homicide and sexual assault. Legacy House is not a shelter; it is a place where a dedicated staff empowers clients to move forward with their lives.
The Bader grant will support the BOOST Program, which provides limited financial assistance to trauma clients encountering barriers to accessing counseling services.
“Someone who has experienced violence and who is affected by the trauma-related stress of that violence may realize they are unable to cope with transportation, housing, employment, education and other routine events of daily life,” said Michael Hurst, executive director of Legacy House.
“Healing cannot occur when those routine events become barriers to seeking or sustaining help with their recovery,” said Hurst. “The generous funding from the Bader Charitable Trust will enable us to address these barriers and improve the outcomes for our clients, enhancing and expediting their journey from victim to survivor to thriver.”
