The Marion County Health Department vaccinated 2,795 children during four back to school immunization clinics held during the week of October 18. An additional 670 children were seen during the week but did not require vaccination.

During today’s (Friday) clinic, 564 children were vaccinated.

“We appreciate those parents, legal guardians and their children for taking advantage of the clinics held this week. These children now have the required immunizations and updated shot records. This has been a very good week,” said Virginia A. Caine, M.D., director, Marion County Health Department.

In order to operate the four-day clinic, the health department closed its District Health Offices to consolidate resources to a single location.

The District Health Offices will resume regular hours Monday, October 25.

Those children who still need required back to school immunizations can get them from the District Health Offices. However, the District Health Offices will be limited in the number of patients they can see for back to school vaccinations.

Those coming to the offices for back to school immunizations should arrive early, plan to wait in long lines and depending on demand, be prepared to return on another day to receive services.

Individuals will be seen on a first-come, first-serve basis. Note that the Tuesday South District Health Office clinic is by appointment only.

For back to school shots, a parent or legal guardian must accompany a child to the clinic. A current shot record or school letter outlining needed vaccinations should be brought to the clinic.

The health department will charge a $10 administrative fee per individual for back to school vaccinations. Medicaid will be accepted and no one will be denied services due to an inability to pay.
