Indianapolis, IN – On Saturday, June 23, 2012, empowering, motivating, and inspiring women in the Indianapolis community will be the theme of the 3rd Annual Women Empowering Women luncheon, hosted by Indianapolis Healthy Start, a program of the Marion County Public Health Department. Maggie Lewis, President of the Indianapolis City-County Council, will serve as the keynote speaker and share her experiences overcoming obstacles and balancing her family and career.

“We try to encourage women to set goals for a healthy lifestyle and to feel that they can accomplish goals despite having some barriers to overcome. In the past we have seen three generations of women come as a family to receive services. It is truly a family event,” said Yvonne Beasley, Director, Maternal and Child Health and Project Director, Indianapolis Healthy Start at the Marion County Public Health Department. Beasley expects attendance to be higher this year considering past success with 46 women attending in 2010 and 57 women attending in 2011.

This year, an exciting service is being offered to attendees through a partnership with the IU National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health (COE). The COE will be on-site at 10 a.m. with their Women’s Wellness on Wheels (WOW) bus offering free, confidential health screenings. The WOW bus is part of a statewide outreach program to raise awareness and improve the status of women’s health in Indiana.

The luncheon begins at 11 a.m. with a catered meal, with the program starting at noon. Guests will hear from exciting speakers and will be part of the interactive question and answer session afterward. In addition, vendors from the community will be on-site to raise awareness about local resources and services.

To register for this event, please call 317-221-2317 as soon as possible. Registrations are being accepted on a first come, first serve basis until Thursday, June 21, 2012.
