INDIANAPOLIS – Covering Kids & Families will host its 14th Annual Back-to-School Family Day on Saturday, July 26 from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the Marion County Public Health Department, 3838 North Rural Street. More than 9,000 people attended last year, making it the largest back-to-school health event in Indianapolis.

Activities include free dental and vision screenings, health information, child immunizations, sports physicals and the opportunity to enroll in free and reduced-price health insurance. More than 50 community organizations will host information booths.

Plus, all school-aged children who attend will receive backpacks with school supplies.

The Indianapolis Fire Department will return with its Fire Safety Festival, offering games, food and interactive educational displays.

“This event is a tremendous way to reach out and help families get ready for the upcoming school year,” said Pamela Humes, Director for Covering Kids & Families of Central Indiana. “We can provide some key services and connect families with much-needed resources.”

Those needing back-to-school immunizations should bring current shot records if they have them. Individual birth certificates for school enrollment will also be available for a fee during the event.

“In order for our children to be truly prepared and perform well in school, they must be healthy and have the appropriate supplies,” said Virginia A. Caine, M.D., Director of the Marion County Public Health Department. “We are proud to partner with Covering Kids & Families to provide this much-needed outreach to the community.”
