The 2011 Indiana AIDS Walk, with sponsorship from Health and Hospital Corporation of Marion County, the Marion County Public Health Department and Wishard Health Services, raised more than $200,000 during its October 8 fundraising event.
The health department was the Marathoner Sponsor; Health and Hospital was a Rider Sponsor; and Wishard was a Cross-Trainer Sponsor.
A total of $201,398 was raised for the Gregory R. Powers Direct Emergency Financial Assistance program, funded through the Indiana AIDS Fund, a program of The Health Foundation of Greater Indianapolis. The assistance program offers support to more than 10,000 Hoosiers living with HIV/AIDS. In 2010, more than 1,220 patients received assistance from the fund.
“We are pleased to continue our partnership with the Foundation and the AIDS Walk. As a health department, as a Corporation and with the support of Wishard, we thank all of those who joined us to support the 2011 AIDS Walk and we look forward to seeing you in 2012,” said Virginia A. Caine, M.D., director, Marion County Public Health Department.
