Health Department Expands HIV and Other STD Testing

The Marion County Health Department’s newly established Substance Use Outreach Services (SUOS) department is now offering free rapid HIV testing on Thursday afternoons from 1-4. The free testing is available the SUOS office at 2951 East 38th Street-suite 204. No appointment is necessary and HIV results will be available in approximately 20 minutes.

“The rapid test is a quick and easy to know your HIV status,” said the health department’s Johnie Underwood.

National trends show an increased demand for the rapid test over the standard HIV test that can take two weeks to generate results.

The SUOS program also offers testing for syphilis, hepatitis, Chlamydia and gonorrhea. These are standard tests and results will not be immediately available.

For more information, contact the SUOS department at 221-4618.
