Local Murder Victims to be Remembered During Service

The lives of 110 Indianapolis residents murdered between September 1, 2009 and August 31 of this year will be remembered during the 4th Annual National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims.

This community event will take place September 25 at 6:30 at Northside New Era Baptist Church, 517 West 30th Street. The memorial service is free and the public is encouraged to attend.

Local community leaders and family members of homicide victims will speak about the impact of murder on families and the community. The event also features a candle lighting ceremony and reading of the names of homicide victims. Families of homicide victims will receive a memorial cross in honor of their loved one.

The Church Federation of Greater Indianapolis, Legacy House, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and the Survivors of Violent Death Support Group are co-sponsoring the memorial event. to honor people who lost their lives to homicide over the past twelve months.
