INDIANAPOLIS – As part of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, Legacy House invites the community to its annual ROCC-a-Thon event on Thursday, April 6 from 10 a.m.-2p.m. on Monument Circle.
ROCC-a-Thon (Reaching Out to Citizens affected by Crime) features music, guest speakers, giveaways, and special recognition for local champions who serve victims of violence. Representatives from local victim services and advocacy organizations will provide information to the public about their services. Plus, dozens of rocking chairs will be set up for anyone who wants to rock and raise awareness about local victim rights and services.
The theme for National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, April 2-8, is Strength. Resilience. Justice.
“Resilience is defined as the ability to be strong, healthy, or successful again after something bad happens, and we want people to know that help is available after experiencing trauma from violence,” said Michael Hurst, executive director of Legacy House. “Through numerous community resources, crime victims can find strength and healing while being treated with dignity and importance.”
Legacy House is a non-profit agency that provides free services to victims of violence, including crisis intervention, trauma counseling, support groups, advocacy and social service referrals.
Hurst said that Legacy House has partnered with service providers and universities to plan events during National Crime Victims’ Rights Week bringing service, trust and hope to the community.
Legacy House is located on the lower level of Eskenazi Health Center North Arlington, 2505 N. Arlington Ave., on the east side of Indianapolis.
