ROCC-a-Thon Raises Awareness for Victims of Crime National Crime Victims’ Rights Week Celebrates Progress, Works Toward Future Goals

INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis non-profit agency Legacy House invites the public to help raise awareness for victims of violent crime during a special event on Monument Circle.
ROCC-a-Thon, Reaching Out to Citizens Affected by Crime, will take place on Thursday, April 10 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on the Circle. The event is part of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, April 6-12. Legacy House provides free counseling and advocacy services to adult and child victims of violence.
Activities at ROCC-a-Thon will include music, giveaways, guest speakers and special recognition for local champions serving victims of violence. Representatives from local victim services and advocacy organizations will also provide information about their services. Plus, dozens of rocking chairs will be set up for anyone who wishes to rock and raise awareness about local victim rights and services.
“Since enactment of the Victims of Violent Crime Act 30 years ago, our nation and our state have made remarkable progress in securing rights, protections and services for victims of violence,” said Michael Hurst, executive director of Legacy House.
“Every state has enacted victims’ rights laws and all have victim compensation programs. Nationally, more than 10,000 victim service agencies help people navigate their recovery from crimes of violence,” Hurst added.
“Legacy House is privileged to host this event and raise awareness about our services and those of other local organizations and advocates.” Legacy House offers a wide range of services at no cost for victims of violence, including crisis intervention, individual and family trauma counseling, support groups, victim advocacy and social service referrals.
