Severe Weather Awareness Week Offers Chance to Plan

This week has been declared Severe Weather Preparedness Week in Indiana. Preparedness is the key to safety during any kind of hazard.
Now is the time to educate and prepare yourself and your family in the event of severe weather. Being familiar with weather terminology, having an emergency preparedness kit and having a plan on how you would respond in the case of severe weather, including tornadoes, is encouraged. It’s important to know how to respond at home, work and while out in the community.
If you don’t take action during warnings, or know the appropriate actions to take, warnings are useless and natural hazards can become natural disasters. The National Weather Service working together with its partners, the media, state and county public officials and emergency response organizations, are committed to protecting life and property during all hazards.
As part of Severe Weather Preparedness Week, the National Weather Service will conduct a statewide test of communication systems on Wednesday, March 16 between 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Another test will occur between 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.
