Pecar Family Health Fest offers free health screenings, music, dancing and entertainment.

Enjoy music, dancing and entertainment while visiting dozens of health screenings and information booths at the third annual Pecar Family Health Fest at Pecar Health Center.

On Saturday, April 12, WTHR Channel 13 and Wishard Health Services will present the Pecar Family Health Fest, a Health Beat Health Fair, at Pecar Health Center, 6940 N. Michigan Road in Indianapolis. The free health fair will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is open to the entire community. A team of healthcare professionals will be on hand to answer questions and administer free health screenings in a family fun atmosphere.

“With Pecar now in our fifth year of operation, the third annual Pecar Family Health Fest offers a great chance to give back to the community,” said Dr. Dawn Haut, medical director, Pecar Health Center. “By offering free health screenings and helpful advice from medical experts, the northwest Indianapolis community will have the opportunity to learn about healthy living tips this spring in a fun environment.”

Health checks provided during the fair will include blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol, glaucoma, STD testing and more. Participants will also have the chance to visit a wide variety of information booths on topics such as nutrition, women’s health, dental care, mental health, tuberculosis, community resources, domestic violence, literacy, Hispanic resources, WIC and health insurance. Spanish interpreters and bilingual pamphlets and health information will be available at the fair.

Some of the groups and organizations that will be participating in the Pecar Family Health Fest include the Marion County Health Department, Wishard’s Hispanic Health Resources, Midtown Community Mental Health Center, Crooked Creek Community Center, About Special Kids (formerly known as Indiana Parent Information Network, Center of Hope at Wishard, Covering Kids and Families, Prevent Blindness of Indiana and Take Charge Lite Weight Loss Program.

In addition to the numerous health screenings and information booths, there will also be music, refreshments and dancing. Face painting for kids will also be offered. Door prizes will be awarded throughout the event. The Pike Township Fire Department will also have one of its fire trucks at Pecar during the morning for children and adults to tour.

Pecar Health Center, which is located on the Jim and Lois Ackerman Health Campus, provides a medical home for families in the areas of internal and family medicine, pediatrics, adolescent care, family planning, dental care and social services. The center is one of eight Wishard Health Services neighborhood health centers located throughout Indianapolis. The center is a collaborative initiative of the Marion County Health Department, Wishard Health Services, IU Medical Group-Primary Care and Health and Hospital Corporation of Marion County.

This year’s fair sponsors include Wishard Health Services, WTHR Channel 13, the Marion County Health Department and IU Medical Group.
