Health Department to Close Flu Helpline Friday Afternoon; Will Continue Answering Flu-Related Questions
Due to a decrease in calls, the Marion County Health Department will close its Flu Helpline Friday at 5 p.m. and answer flu related questions from its Communicable Disease Department beginning Monday, May 18. The new number will be 221-2000.
Since opening April 28, the bi-lingual Flu Helpline has assisted more than 2,600 callers with public health nurses, health educators, social workers and counselors responding to calls.
“We feel the community is aware of the flu, understands the symptoms and knows that if they have a fever, sore throat, cough, vomiting or diarrhea that they are to stay home and contact their health care provider,” said Virginia A. Caine, M.D., director, Marion County Health Department.
The new contact phone number is 221-2000 and will be available from 8 until 5 Monday through Friday.
