Health Department to Offer Safe Sitter Classes

Aspiring babysitters and those who live with younger siblings are invited to register for the Marion County Health Department’s popular Safe Sitter program. Coordinated by the health department’s social services program, Safe Sitter is a medically accurate program intended to help prepare babysitters for the responsibility of childcare.

The daylong Safe Sitter class instructs boys and girls ages 11-14 on a variety of childcare topics including how to respond to emergencies and how to decide what situations require emergency attention. The classes, which last from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. will also instruct baby sitters on how to keep themselves safe while babysitting and a variety of other topics. Registration is required and cost for the class is $20.
