INDIANAPOLIS – Covering Kids & Families of Health and Hospital Corporation invites families to attend its 24th annual Back to School and Community Resource Day featuring the IFD Fire Safety Festival on Saturday, July 13 from 8:30 a.m. until Noon in the parking lot of the Marion County Public Health Department located at 3838 N. Rural Street.

Each school-aged child that attends will receive a free backpack with school supplies and backpack meals with healthy snacks from Gleaners. Other resources for children at the event provided by the health department include free immunizations, sports physicals, vision screenings, and dental screenings. Birth certificate services will also be available at no cost for the first 100 school-aged children.

Families can take advantage of health care enrollment on site for Hoosier Healthwise, Healthy Indiana Plan, Affordable Care Act Marketplace and Eskenazi Financial Assistance Program. To verify eligibility for these programs, residents are asked to bring income stubs for the past three months, their social security card, and proof of address.

Plus, representatives from 44 community organizations will have information available on a variety of resources to help families achieve better health and quality of life.

A popular feature at this annual back to school event is the Indianapolis Fire Department’s Fire Safety Festival with games, food and fun activities for children to enjoy.
“We have a long history of serving families to help prepare children of all ages for the next school year,” said Pamela Humes, director of Covering Kids & Families of Health and Hospital Corporation. “The continued support of sponsors, volunteers and the public make it possible for us to offer these resources in one place. We look forward to hosting this great annual event.”
